2017 ROCK & ROLL RENDEZVOUS
Sunday 9th April at National Motor Museum, Birdwood - from 10am to 5pm: music, dance, fashion and chrome-plated classic muscle cars and bikes.

ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE Pet of the Week
All the cats and dogs that are available for adoption from the AWL have been desexed, microchipped,
vaccinated and health checked and are ready to go. The adoption cost starts at $50.
The pets may be at one of three AWL locations - Wingfield, Port Adelaide or Edinburgh North

Fiction Fundamentals Workshop
Samantha Bond, professional published author and experienced
creative writing teacher is presenting this beginner to intermediate
course of six workshops. Topics will cover the fundamental
building blocks of writing fiction. Participants can attend all six workshops, or just a few. The benefit of attending all six is that you’ll get a holistic overview of what goes into writing a novel or short story.
Week 1 - Wednesday 15th March 7 - 9pm
Story, theme and generating ideas: ways to get great ideas and how to string them together.
Plot: how fiction is shaped and the causal link between character actions and story.
Week 2 - Wednesday 19th April 7 - 9pm
Characters and Conflict.
Week 3 - Wednesday 17th May 7 – 9pm
Point of view and tense, Authorial voice.
Week 4 - Wednesday 21st May 7 – 9pm

Conquer the Summit & Family Fun Run 5KM & 11KM
The sixth annual Conquer the Summit & Family FUN RUN is
the premier fundraising event of the Lions Club of
Mount Barker in partnership with YMCA Adelaide Hills.
It is generously supported by the District Council of
Mount Barker and the SA Roadrunners Club.
You have a choice of 2 routes:
1. Summit Ascent (11km one-way) – From Mount Barker township (Keith Stephenson Park) via award-winning Laratinga Wetlands to Mount Barker Summit. Total vertical climb: approximately 150 Metres. Return to township via free shuttle bus.
2. Laratinga Circuit (5km return) –From Mount Barker township to the Laratinga Wetlands, starting and finishing at Keith Stephenson Park. Picturesque and ideal for families! No hill-climbing involved.

•Family (1 or 2 adults plus 1 or more children aged 8 to 15)

CAR BOOT SALE AT MT BARKER
The Mt Barker & Strathalbyn branch of the Knights of the Southern Cross SA are holding a fundraising Car Boot Sale, with the proceeds going into community assistance programs.
If you have some unwanted items, bring them along to the Mt. Barker Oval on Sunday April 2nd - gates open to sellers at 7am, and to buyers at 8am.
Cost for sellers: $15 car; $20 trailer.
Entry cost for buyers is a gold coin donation.

THE MARTEN BEQUEST SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications now open for scholarships worth a total of $600,000 to support 12 successful artists across 6 categories - music, dance, visual arts, theatre, literature and architecture - to explore and develop their artistic gifts domestically or internationally.

IN CONVERSATION WITH REBEKAH CLARKSON
Local author Rebekah Clarkson has been writing short stories for years but the release of 'Barking Dogs' marks her first full novel.
Everything is set in and around the township of Mount Barker with short stories on the lives of people in the town. All of the characters are completely fictional, but capture the nature of living in a regional area and deals with many issues, including the population boom currently being experienced.
